Types of Exit Devices We Install and Service

Push bars come in different styles. Picking the right type depends on the door material, width, traffic level, and code needs. We will guide you during the walkthrough and explain why each option fits or does not fit your door.

Rim Exit Devices

• Mounts on the surface of the door with a latch that hits a strike on the frame
• Common on single doors and some double door active leaves
• Fast to install and easy to service
• Ideal for hollow metal and solid wood doors

Surface Vertical Rod Exit Devices

• Uses top and bottom latches that secure into the frame head and floor
• Great for pairs of doors where you want both leaves to latch
• Works well in schools, gyms, and double door corridors
• Avoids a center mullion in many cases

Concealed Vertical Rod Exit Devices

• Rods are hidden inside the door
• Gives a cleaner look, often used on aluminum storefront pairs
• Requires precise prep and parts that match the door stile
• Common on retail entrances

Mortise Exit Devices

• Latch is inside a pocket in the door edge
• Strong and smooth operation with heavy use
• Good for high traffic doors and thick wood or metal doors

Fire Rated vs Panic Hardware

• Panic hardware allows quick egress
• Fire rated exit devices are tested for fire doors and hold the door closed during a fire
• On fire doors, the device must be labeled and cannot have features that hold the latch retracted during normal hours if that would defeat the fire rating
• We help you select hardware that matches your door label and your code needs

Narrow Stile Devices for Storefronts

• Many retail shops have narrow aluminum frames
• These doors need narrow stile push bars and trims that fit the small face width

Common Push Bar Problems We Fix Daily

Houston weather and heavy use can be rough on door hardware. If your push bar has any of these problems, we can help.

• The bar is loose or wobbly
• The latch will not retract fully
• You have to slam the door to get it to latch
• The bar sticks during a rush and causes a line
• The dogging feature does not hold or gets stuck
• The trim handle on the outside spins or sags
• The cylinder turns but does nothing

Our Process From Call to Completed Work

We keep it simple and fast.

• 1) Call us or book online. Tell us what door you have, where you are, and what is happening. If it is urgent, say so. We offer 30 minute arrival in many Houston areas and same day service citywide.
• 2) On site inspection. We check door type, swing, width, handing, stile size, and frame condition. We measure device length, backset, and the strike layout. We look at the closer, hinges, and threshold because those affect latch action.
• 3) Clear options and pricing. You get options that match your door and code needs. We explain the difference between repair and replacement, show you parts, and quote the total before work starts. Quotes are free.
• 4) Parts on the truck. Our vans carry common push bars, strikes, trims, and thru bolts. Brands we stock and service include Von Duprin, Detex, Adams Rite, Schlage, Yale, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, Falcon, Cal-Royal, and Dormakaba. If a special finish or model is needed, we can source it quickly.
• 5) Clean install or repair. We repair worn parts, align the strike, tighten thru bolts, adjust the rods, and set the closer so the latch catches. For a new device, we prep the door, mount the bar, reinforce as needed, and dress the trim clean.
• 6) Test and handoff. We test the door from both sides, check one motion egress, and show you how to use dogging or alarm features. We answer your questions and tidy the work area.
